Drive type is a major configuration choice for agricultural tractors. Here is a practical comparison for farms and export buyers.
When 4WD is the better default
- Wet, sticky or uneven soils
- Heavy tillage and steep or undulating land
- Loader work that needs front traction
- Orchard and greenhouse paths with limited traction
When 2WD can still make sense
Light transport, dry flat fields and budget-focused utility roles may still use 2WD. Many international buyers, however, prefer 4WD for resale value and broader application range.
Procurement tip
Specify drive type together with tire package, ballast and intended implements. A 4WD tractor under-tired for the job will not deliver its full field capability.
