Farm size alone does not decide horsepower. A 50-hectare mixed farm may need a different tractor than a 50-hectare pure cereal operation with heavy primary tillage.

Typical starting bands

  • 50–90 HP 4WD — common for mixed tillage, transport and loader work
  • 90–160 HP — heavier plough trains, tougher soils, higher annual hours
  • Compact specialty — orchards/greenhouses even on larger total land

Decision method

List the heaviest implement used regularly, soil hardness and annual hours. Then choose drive type and ballast. Read our HP guide or filter by requirement.
